Old news but still good to read

Times of India report: [5 May 2012, PESHAWAR, Pakistan] Teen Taliban bomber kills 20 in Pakistan

PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber struck near a crowded market in Bajaur, a tribal area close to Afghanistan border, on Friday, killing 20 people including security personnel and leaving more than 50 wounded. Bajaur is where the Pakistan military has launched many of its offensives against the al-Qaidalinked Pakistani Taliban, the most serious security threat to the country.

At least three of the dead were policemen, including a senior officer, said an official. The terror group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the suicide attack issuing a sadistic statement, “It is stated with pleasure that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan accept with courage the responsibility of martyr attack in Khar, Bajaur Agency.”
Officials said that early Friday morning in Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur tribal region, a teenage suicide bomber ran into a group of paramilitary troops and detonated his explosive vest. The troops were waiting to be taken to different locations for their routine patrolling.

Times of India report: [4 May 2012, KHAR, Pakistan] Teenage suicide bomber kills 16 in Pakistan

KHAR, Pakistan: A teenage suicide bomber targeting the police killed at least 16 people and wounded dozens when he hit a busy town square in Pakistan’s tribal belt on Friday, officials said.

Among the dead were the local chief and deputy in a tribal police force recruited by the government to help defeat the Taliban in the northwest. Such forces are frequently targeted by militants linked to the Taliban and al-Qaida.

The bomber detonated explosives strapped to his chest in a bustling square in Khar, the main town of Bajaur district, near the Afghan border. Bajaur has been one of the toughest battlegrounds in Pakistan’s fight against a northwestern Taliban insurgency.

“The death toll has risen to 16. Five of them were tribal policemen,” Abdul Haseeb, an administration official in Khar, told AFP.

Pakistan a failed state: US lawmaker to PM Yousuf Raza Gilani

Posted by The Mindset on May 9, 2012

So finally a US lawmaker said what we had known for long – Pakistan is a Failed State. What’s new in that – in a country where even a governor can be killed and people are sympathetic to the killer , what can you expect.

Times of India report: Pakistan a failed state: US lawmaker to PM Yousuf Raza Gilani

WASHINGTON:Influential American Congressman Dana Rohrabacher has told Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Gilani that his country is a failed state and no amount of US aid money will ever change that.

“It is becoming increasingly clear to Members of the US Congress that Pakistan is a failed state and no amount of US aid money will ever change that,” Rohrabacher wrote in a letter to Gilani.
In his letter, Rohrabacher condemned a recent police action that resulted in the death of four Baluchi men.

“Pakistan’s future will remain bleak and marred by political violence as long as the Pakistani government and military continue to deny ethnic groups within Pakistan a right to self-determination,” he wrote.

“American aid money for Pakistan will dry up. It is clear that the Pakistani military and intelligence services have for years diverted money intended to help the people of Balochistan, and the other provinces of Pakistan, into funding terrorism and buying weapons to repress their own people,” Rohrabacher said.

Abolish haj subsidy in 10 years: Supreme Court to government

Posted by The Mindset on May 9, 2012

Finally Supreme Court of India has taken a good decision. Haj subsidy, the TAX PAYERS MONEY which was given to Muslims to fulfill their haj to Mecca will be abolished. My question is why in 10 years, why not NOW?

Times of India report: Abolish haj subsidy in 10 years: Supreme Court to government

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Union government to gradually reduce and abolish haj subsidy in 10 years and invest the amount – averaging over Rs 650 crore a year for last five years – in education and other measures for social development of the minority community.
“We direct the Central government to progressively reduce the amount of subsidy so as to completely eliminate it within a period of 10 years from today,” said a bench of Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana P Desai in an order that reflected a resolve which successive governments had failed to muster in the last 60 years. That the apex court had earlier upheld the constitutional validity of Haj subsidy only adds to the significance of the order.

My question is why in 10 years why not now? Muslims asked for their separate country in 1947 and got it. So they have no right over India’s resources.

The police team from Karnataka arrested Kafil Ahmed from Barasmela village two days ago in connection with the 2010 Chinnaswamy Stadium twin blasts

Times of India Report: Karnataka police arrest Muslim terrorist in Bihar

DARBHANGA/PATNA: The Karnataka police have arrested a suspected terrorist from Bihar’s Darbhanga district, prompting chief minister Nitish Kumar to raise objection against the unilateral police action.

The police team from Karnataka arrested Kafil Ahmed from Barasmela village two days ago in connection with the 2010 Chinnaswamy Stadium twin blasts, superintendent of police Garima Malik said.
Fifteen people were injured when two low-intensity bombs exploded outside a packed Chinnaswamy cricket stadium on April 17, 2010.

“The Karnataka police did not contact the local police nor inform us about the arrest of Ahmed,” the SP said, adding that the Darbhanga police came to know about the arrest of the suspected terrorist from his family.

In Patna, chief minister Nitish Kumar said, “The Karnakata police has brazenly violated an established law about giving prior information to the local police about arrest of a person from its jurisdiction.”
